Despite uproar in the Upper House, 27th Constitutional Amendment passed, opposition protests

Islamabad: There was uproar in the Senate session when Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar presented the 27th Constitutional Amendment for approval.

As soon as the Senate Chairman began the process of clause-wise approval, the opposition members started shouting slogans and making noise. Several members tore copies of the agenda and recorded their protest.

Interestingly, PTI Senator Saifullah Abro did not join the protest initially, but when it came time to vote on the amendment motion, he stood in favor of the constitutional amendment. JUI-F Senator Ahmed Khan also supported the amendment.

The House received 64 votes in favor of the 27th Constitutional Amendment and the bill was passed with a two-thirds majority. On this occasion, there was a loud banging of the desk from the government benches.
