Karachi: All government and private schools across Sindh will remain closed on Saturday, January 17, which has been officially announced through a notification issued by the Sindh Education Department.

According to the Education Department, Shab-e-Meraj is a sacred and spiritual occasion in Islamic history, which is celebrated with devotion and respect across the country. In view of this importance, the Sindh government has decided to give students, teachers and education staff a break from educational activities on this day.

According to the notification, the holiday will apply to all government and private schools in the province, however, no clear instructions have been issued for colleges and universities yet.

Several private schools have confirmed the holiday to parents through messages, while some institutions have also issued awareness on their social media platforms.

According to education experts, academic holidays on religious occasions not only help bring students closer spiritually but also promote social harmony. They say such decisions are a manifestation of the protection of cultural and religious values.
