Karachi: The Pakistan Stock Exchange witnessed significant volatility during trading on Thursday; however, due to selling pressure at the end, the benchmark KSE 100 index closed at 170,498 points with a decrease of 1,733 points.
The index remained in the band of about 2,100 points in the trading session, which indicates the intensity of volatility in the market. The decline at the end of the day also affected the overall market performance.
A total of 750 million shares were traded in the stock market, worth Rs 27 billion. Despite the trading volume, selling pressure prevailed on the market, and the main index closed with a significant decrease.
On the other hand, a decrease of Rs 207 billion was recorded in the market capitalisation. After this decrease, the total market capitalisation of the Pakistan Stock Exchange was reduced to Rs 18,971 billion.
Business data showed that investor activity remained strong during the session, but the overall market direction remained negative. The market direction in the coming sessions will be determined by other key factors including investor confidence, economic developments and financial results of companies.
