Karachi: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi directed the FIA Karachi Zone meeting to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against human trafficking, fake medicines and financial crimes.
A detailed briefing was given on the performance of Karachi and the South Zone in the meeting, during which the Interior Minister said that exposing the entire financial chain of elements involved in money laundering is the need of the hour. He said that illegal businesses like Hawala Hundi are harming the country’s economy and effective and continuous action against them is inevitable.
Mohsin Naqvi strongly criticised the agents involved in human trafficking, saying that sending innocent citizens abroad through illegal means by deceiving them is a serious crime, on which no compromise will be made.
FIA officials told the meeting that 20 accused of human trafficking have been arrested in the last four months, while drugs and non-customs products worth Rs 140 million have been seized.
According to legal experts, strict action against fake medicines is very important for the protection of public health, as this illegal business not only costs lives but also has negative impacts on the health system.
The meeting was also informed that a special facilitation centre has been established at Karachi Airport to facilitate passengers. The Interior Minister, while seeking performance reports from the concerned officers, directed that result-based measures be taken to restore public trust.
