Karachi: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned that the water level in the Indus River and its surrounding areas may rise to dangerous levels in the coming days, resulting in massive flooding.

According to the agency’s report, the water flow at Panjnad, Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri Barrages is likely to be between 8 lakh and 12 lakh cusecs during September 3 to 13. This severe flow may affect the low-lying areas of South Punjab and interior Sindh more.

Disaster management officials have clarified that even in the event of a dam breach or a change in the direction of the water, the flow will not go below at least 750,000 cusecs, which is likely to inundate agricultural areas, villages, and local populations.

The NDMA has strictly instructed citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, keep emergency kits ready, and save valuable documents. It has also appealed for full cooperation with the local administration so that the loss of life and property can be minimized.
