Lahore: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a very high flood alert in various rivers including the Sutlej, Ravi and Chenab. According to the PDMA, heavy rains are likely in the upper reaches of these rivers from September 1 to 5, due to which the flood situation may become serious.
The PDMA spokesperson said that very high flood is expected in the Chenab River at the head trims in the next 24 hours, while the water level will also remain high at Ganda Singh Wala. In this context, all the commissioners and deputy commissioners of the province have been instructed to remain on high alert.
Relief Commissioner Punjab Nabeel Javed has instructed the district and administrative authorities to be ready to respond immediately to the possible situation. On the other hand, DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia has said that the health, agriculture, irrigation, forests, livestock and transport departments have also been mobilized for emergency measures.
He clarified that the emergency control rooms have been activated and the public is appealed to follow the precautionary measures issued to avoid any major damage.
