Lahore: The traffic police have issued a new schedule of fines to improve traffic discipline across the country. According to the new policy, motorcyclists will have to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 for each violation, while a maximum fine of Rs 20,000 will be collected for various violations in total.
According to officials, earlier fines were fixed from Rs 100 to 500 for minor violations, however, after the increase in accidents, these fines have now been increased several times. Especially, drivers of vehicles above 2,000 cc will have to pay a fine of up to Rs 20,000 if they are caught speeding or driving carelessly.
Traffic police further said that a fine of up to Rs 15,000 will be imposed for violating the signal, overloading, or driving in the wrong direction. According to the police, the new policy will help attract citizens to obey the rules and reduce the rate of accidents.
Traffic experts believe that heavy fines can make citizens more cautious, but strict monitoring and transparent action are also necessary for their effective implementation.
