Washington: Rumors about the death of US President Donald Trump spread like wildfire on social media, further fueled by fake videos and misleading statements.
The rumors initially surfaced when the White House livestream was interrupted by a technical glitch. After that, hashtags for Trump’s death became the top trending topic on X (formerly Twitter).
A fake video soon emerged, attributed to the popular cartoon series The Simpsons. Although producer Matt Selman later clarified that the footage was created by AI.
The situation became more complicated when a statement by Vice President J.D. Vance, in which he simply talked about the presidential succession, was taken out of context and went viral.
