Islamabad: The moon of the month of Shaban has been sighted in Pakistan, after which the first date of the Islamic month of Shaban has begun today, January 21. Along with this, the dates related to the possible start of Ramadan have also become clear, which is attracting special interest among religious circles and the public across the country.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, which is very sacred for Muslims. Fasts are observed in this month, worship is increased and special attention is paid to spiritual purification. Muslims abstain from food, drink and other desires from dawn to sunset in order to develop a state of patience, piety and self-accountability.

According to astronomers and the lunar calendar, if the month of Shaban is 29 days long, the first fast of Ramadan can be on February 19, 2026.  However, if Shaban completes 30 days, Ramadan is likely to start on February 20, 2026.
The final date for the start of Ramadan will be announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after the sighting of the moon.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has called a meeting on the night of February 18 to sight the moon of the holy month of Ramadan. The meeting will be chaired by Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.
The meeting will take a final decision on the start of Ramadan in the light of the moon sightings and scientific evidence received from across the country.

According to scholars, the month of Shaban provides an opportunity to prepare for Ramadan, in which the focus is on worship, charity and moral reform. The Ramadan that comes after this month is a spiritual revolution for Muslims.
Ramadan ends with Eid-ul-Fitr, which is a symbol of happiness, gratitude and brotherhood.
Ramadan preparations have begun in mosques, madrasas, and homes across the country, while the public’s eyes are now focused on the final announcement by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
