Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan has said in its statement that the decisions of the Supreme Court and the High Courts are proof that the Election Commission has always made independent decisions in full compliance with the constitution and the law. The institution has made it clear that baseless allegations and political campaigns cannot affect its independence.
The statement said that the Supreme Court recognized the position regarding the secret ballot in the Senate election as correct, while the action of the Election Commission in the Daska by-election was declared constitutional and transparent. Similarly, the commission’s interpretation of the PTI intra-party election and the delisting of APML were also upheld by the court’s decisions.
According to the statement, the rejection of the Lahore High Court’s decision regarding the establishment of Punjab Election Tribunals and the confirmation of the Election Commission’s position on the reserved seats of the Sunni Ittehad Council are proof that the institution is not intimidated by any political pressure or propaganda.
The Election Commission said that some elements are trying to hide their failures and tarnish the reputation of the institution in the eyes of the public, but the facts have been proven time and again in the courts.
The statement further said that the Election Commission takes decisions only in the light of the constitutional scope, available evidence, and law and is committed to making the country’s democratic process transparent.
