Karachi: With the onset of winter, gas shortage has intensified once again, as a result of which the Sui Southern Gas Company has announced a temporary suspension of gas supply to the industrial and transport sectors.
According to company officials, a significant increase in domestic consumption is creating extraordinary pressure on the system. To deal with this situation, it has been decided that gas will not be supplied to industries, captive power units and CNG stations for two days so that the needs of homes and small businesses can be met.
The spokesperson said that load management is already underway during the night hours to ensure balanced supply to consumers, however, due to increasing demand, further measures have become necessary.
Industry organizations have expressed fears that continuous gas shutdown will affect the production of factories, delay the fulfillment of orders and harm the country’s exports. The business community has also demanded the government to formulate a permanent and workable policy.
On the other hand, the company says that uninterrupted supply of gas to domestic consumers during the cold season is the top priority and this measure is temporary in nature. As soon as the supply situation improves, gas will be supplied again to the industrial sector.
Sui Southern’s load management is strict, priority is given to domestic consumers, gas supply to industries and CNG suspended
