Lahore: There is a fear that normal life will be affected due to severe cold, snowfall, and fog in the northern areas of Punjab, on which PDMA Punjab has issued special instructions for citizens and institutions.
According to PDMA, the severity of the weather is likely to continue in the Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiat, and Pothohar regions till January 16. In this regard, all the relevant departments have been instructed to remain on high alert.
DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said that the risk of traffic accidents may also increase due to the increase in fog and smog, so drivers have been instructed to use fog lights, reduce speed, and avoid sudden braking.
He said that facilitation centers have been established at various places in Murree for the convenience of tourists so that immediate help can be provided in any emergency.
According to PDMA, 24-hour monitoring is going on in the control room, and citizens can contact 1129 in any emergency.
According to Senior Traffic and Safety Expert Waqas Ahmed,
“If precautionary measures are not taken during fog in the cold season, the chances of accidents increase manifold, so public awareness is of utmost importance at this time.”
Experts say that if citizens follow government instructions, losses can be reduced to a large extent despite the severity of the weather.
