Section 144 imposed in Punjab until October 18 on public gatherings

Lahore: The Punjab Home Department has issued an official notification for the implementation of Section 144 in view of the law and order situation across the province. The government has also directed to widely publicize this decision for public awareness.

According to the spokesperson of the Home Department, Section 144 will continue to be implemented till October 18. During this time, there will be a complete ban on holding any kind of gathering, procession, rallies, sit-ins or protest gatherings across Punjab. No gathering of four or more people will be allowed in a public place.

According to the notification, a complete ban has also been imposed on the display of weapons and unauthorized use of loudspeakers. Loudspeakers will be limited to Azan and Friday sermons only, immediate action will be taken on violation.

It has been further informed that there will also be a ban on the publication or distribution of hateful, inflammatory and sectarian material across the province. According to the Punjab government, these measures are indispensable for the prevention of terrorism and the establishment of public order.

The Home Department has clarified that wedding ceremonies, funerals and burials are exempted from this ban, while officers and officials performing official duties will be allowed to perform their duties.

The spokesperson has warned that according to reports from security agencies, public protests or sit-ins can become soft targets for terrorist elements. Miscreants can be involved in anti-state activities under the guise of protests, so the public is appealed to cooperate fully and maintain peace and law.
