Schools and offices to remain closed on September 24 for local body by-elections

Karachi: The provincial government of Sindh has declared a public holiday in 14 districts of Sindh on September 24 on the occasion of local body by-elections. According to the notification, all government offices, schools, and business establishments will remain closed.

The Sindh Education Department has sent a letter to the District Education Officers and the Private Schools Directorate, directing them to provide facilities for the establishment of polling stations.

These elections will be held in Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Matiari, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Dadu, Badin, Thatta, Karachi East, Karachi West, and Keamari.

According to the spokesperson of the Election Commission of Sindh, 28 seats will be contested in these elections, including 2 District Council Members, 6 Chairmen, 7 Vice Chairmen, and 13 General Councilors.

167 polling stations have been set up for the election process, out of which 127 have been declared highly sensitive, 34 sensitive, and 6 normal. The total number of voters is 243,187, including 133,038 males and 110,154 females.
