Rawalpindi: The Regional Transport Authority has announced a significant reduction in public transport fares after the recent reduction in the prices of petroleum products.
According to the announcement, the fares of diesel-powered vehicles have been reduced by 15 percent while the fares of petrol vehicles have been reduced by 5 percent. It has also been agreed to reduce the fares of goods transport by up to 26 percent.
This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Secretary Regional Transport Authority Syed Asad Abbas, which was attended by transporters and representatives of various unions.
The Transport Secretary says that the reduction in fares will not only provide immediate relief to the public but will also reduce the pressure of inflation.
This development has come after the announcement of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in which he promised to provide relief to the public by reducing the prices of petroleum products.
