Lahore: Punjab Police has intensified operations across the province to implement Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s “Smog-Free Punjab” vision.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed that operations should be further tightened in industrial areas and agricultural areas as well. He said that no concessions will be given for violation of smog SOPs as this is not just a campaign but a matter of public health and future.
According to a report released by Punjab Police, 824 cases were registered during the large-scale campaign against air pollution this year, while 775 people were arrested for various violations.
In Lahore city alone, 34 cases were registered and 41 suspects were detained. In addition, challans were issued for more than 290,000 vehicles emitting smoke, out of which 24,000 vehicles were impounded, while the fitness certificates of 283 vehicles were canceled.
