Lahore: The Punjab government has taken a major step to ensure transparency, ease and security in the vehicle registration and ownership system in the province, under which important amendments have been approved in the Motor Vehicle Rules 1969..
A decision presided over by the Chief Minister
This revolutionary decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The main objective of this move is to develop the number plates, vehicle ownership and registration procedure on the basis of modern technology.
The number plate will now be the identity of the owner
Under the new and amended system, the registration mark (number plate) of vehicles will be directly linked to the identity of the owner instead of the vehicle. This means that the number plate data will be linked to the record of the original owner of the vehicle.
The biggest benefit of this change will be that fake vehicle purchases and sales and illegal transactions will be effectively curbed, which will help in controlling counterfeiting and fraud in the province.
Secure system linked to NADRA
The new system will be linked to the NADRA database so that the complete record of every vehicle and its owner is available on a single secure platform.
With this technology-based integration, law enforcement agencies including police, excise and traffic police will be able to identify the vehicle and verify its ownership instantly and without any hassle.
Fast and paperless transfer process
The Punjab government says that this initiative will not only make the process of buying and selling vehicles safe and transparent, but the process of ownership transfer will also be fast, secure and paperless. This system is an important step towards facilitating citizens and bringing innovation in government processes.
