Lahore: The Punjab government has taken a revolutionary step to facilitate the provision of basic services to citizens and announced the issuance of computerized birth and death certificates free of charge. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has implemented this new system under the “Birth and Death Registration Rules 2025,” which will be applicable throughout the province.

Under this new initiative, citizens can now get registered for events up to seven years old through union councils and municipal committees free of charge. In addition, the condition of obtaining a degree from the court for late registration has also been removed, which will save thousands of families from legal complications.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz termed the decision as an important step for public welfare and said that the government is committed to providing facilities to the citizens. She said that timely registration is not only necessary for accessing government services but also helps in protecting the rights of citizens.

This decision is a major step towards the Punjab government’s digitalization agenda and people-friendly governance, which promotes transparency, ease, and trust.
