Lahore: Anti-Corruption Punjab has launched a major crackdown against illegal housing schemes. Director General Sohail Zafar Chatha said that the records of housing schemes established along the Ravi River have been called for and summons have been issued to the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) in this regard.

According to the DG Anti-Corruption, the owner of an illegal housing scheme has been arrested, who is accused of illegally transferring Rs 8 billion to Dubai. This scheme was built on 11,000 kanals of land and the involvement of some LDA officers has also come to light.

Sohail Zafar Chatha clarified that the scope of the investigation has been widened and practical steps are being taken to return the looted money to the affected citizens. He said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed that no officer involved in corruption should be pardoned.

Analysts say that this move could set a new precedent against illegal housing schemes in Punjab. However, public circles are raising questions about whether these actions will be limited to specific housing societies or whether big developers and influential figures will also be brought to justice.
