Punjab Assembly Senate Election: Opposition boycotts, Rana Sanaullah wins

Lahore: Government candidate Rana Sanaullah won the Senate by-election held in Lahore. This seat was vacated due to the disqualification of PTI leader Ijaz Chaudhry.

Out of a total of 363 members of the assembly, 251 voted, one vote was rejected, while the opposition completely abstained from the election process.

The opposition had nominated Ijaz Chaudhry’s wife Salma Ijaz for this seat, but the boycott turned the contest into a one-sided one.

After the victory, Rana Sanaullah said that PTI’s boycott is actually a sign of fear of defeat and distrust in its members.  He claimed that several PTI members contacted him and expressed their desire to vote, but he refused.

According to Rana Sanaullah:
“The PTI candidates filed papers, then went to court, and when they failed, they resorted to boycott. This act shows their political weakness.”

On the other hand, the Prime Minister’s advisor said that the cabinet is a team and each minister is discharging his responsibility in a good manner.

According to him, whatever responsibility Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gives, he fulfills it with integrity.

According to experts, this election is not only a success for the government alliance but also a major political setback for the opposition.
