Peshawar: The by-elections on the general Senate seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been completed, and according to unofficial and unconfirmed results, PTI-backed independent candidate Khurram Zeeshan has won by a clear margin.

According to Election Commission sources, Khurram Zeeshan secured 91 votes, while his opponent, PML-N candidate Taj Muhammad Afridi, got 45 votes. One vote was rejected and 8 members did not cast their votes.

The polling process was held in the Jirga Hall of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, in which 137 members of the assembly exercised their right to vote. Provincial Election Commissioner Saeed Gul served as the Returning Officer on this occasion.

The seat had fallen vacant after the disqualification of PTI leader Shibli Faraz, who was convicted in the May 9 cases. Shibli Faraz had approached the Supreme Court to stop the by-election, but the court rejected his request.
