ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a crackdown against cloned and IMEI-tampered mobile devices. Raids were conducted in Karachi, Mansehra, and other cities during a joint operation with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
In these operations, advanced software, computer systems, and other equipment were seized, which were being used to illegally change the identity of mobile phones.
The PTA clarified in a statement that such devices pose a threat to national security, public safety, and digital infrastructure. They can fuel dangerous crimes like financial fraud, cybercrime, and terrorism.
The PTA has urged the public to always buy registered and PTA-approved mobile phones and immediately report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
