Lahore: Fresh details about the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) have emerged as the proposed match schedule for PSL season 11 has reportedly been finalised internally.
According to inside sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board is expected to release the official schedule of the tournament next week. According to initial reports, the new season will begin with the opening ceremony and first match in Lahore on March 26.
The tournament’s opening match is expected to see Lahore Qalandars take on Hyderabad Kingsmen at the historic Gaddafi Stadium, setting the stage for several weeks of competitive T20 cricket.
As per the proposed format, all participating teams will initially compete in the first phase, where each team will play seven matches. This phase will determine the standings and qualification for the next round.
In the second phase, the teams will reportedly be divided into two groups. Each team will then play three additional matches in their respective group before moving on to the play-off phase of the tournament.
One group is expected to include Lahore Qalandars, Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings and Hyderabad Kings. The other group is likely to include Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans and a Rawalpindi franchise.
The playoffs will begin with a qualifier scheduled for April 28 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.
The first eliminator is likely to be held in Lahore on April 29, followed by the second eliminator on May 1 at the Gaddafi Stadium.
The PSL 11 final is likely to be held in Lahore on May 3, where the two best-performing teams of the season will compete for the championship title.
Cricket fans across Pakistan are now eagerly awaiting the official confirmation of the schedule as expectations are high for another thrilling edition of the country’s most popular T20 league.
