Islamabad: Another financial pressure is about to come on the energy sector in Pakistan as power distribution companies have filed a new application with NEPRA to increase the cost of electricity. A formal hearing on this matter will be held on November 6.

According to the petition, the price hike has been proposed based on the increase in capacity payment, administrative and maintenance costs and line losses. This move will impose an additional financial burden of Rs 8.41 billion on consumers across the country.

Citizens will recall that on October 14 of the same month, electricity was also increased by 8 paise per unit, which was implemented as per the August fuel price adjustment.

NEPRA had clarified in its decision that these additional prices will also be applicable to K-Electric consumers, and the additional recovery will be made in the October bills itself.

Moreover, CPPA had earlier submitted a request for an increase of 19 paise per unit under the fuel price adjustment, on which NEPRA had reserved its decision and later issued a notification.
