Sialkot: Talking to the media in Sialkot, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif revealed that progress is being made in peace talks with Afghanistan, which are being facilitated by Qatar and Turkey. He said that the results of the recent talks in Istanbul will be made public soon.
According to him, today’s talks will determine what conditions the Afghan Taliban are demanding for peace. If those conditions are in line with Pakistan’s security and interests, a new agreement can be drawn up.
Khawaja Asif said that the situation on the Pak-Afghan border has been peaceful for the past few days, while about 80 percent of the Qatar agreement is being adhered to. He alleged that India is continuing a proxy war against Pakistan through Afghanistan.
The Defense Minister said that Pakistan has been hospitable to Afghans for four decades, but unfortunately, now some Afghan elements are playing into India’s hands.
During the talks, he also expressed concern over the shortage of doctors in Sialkot, saying that local doctors are preferring jobs in Lahore, which is affecting medical facilities here.
