Islamabad: DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that Pakistan’s armed forces should not be involved in politics and the forces are only associated with the state of Pakistan, not with any party or individual.
In an interview given to the British Broadcasting Corporation, he said that the army is not interested in talking to any political party; the army’s commitment is to the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and security of the people. He said that sometimes rumors are spread that the army is involved in politics, while the facts are the opposite.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that whatever government is in power at the time, it is the state of the time, and the army follows the orders of that state under the constitution. Assumptions are made against the Pakistani army for political purposes, but the nation has never felt a shortage of the army in any field.
He clarified that when there is a polio campaign, disasters, or internal security challenges, the army provides all possible assistance at the request of the government. He said, “This question should be asked to those politicians who blame the army for political instability.”
The DG ISPR said that the army is discharging its professional responsibilities at all levels with complete solidarity, and attempts to make this institution controversial are unacceptable.
