Pakistan Railways Raises Passenger and Freight Fares After Fuel Price Hike

Lahore: Pakistan Railways has announced a fare hike for both passenger and freight services following the hike in fuel prices. Effective from June 20, passenger train fares will increase by 3 percent, while freight rates will increase by 4 percent, with the freight adjustment effective from June 23.

Fuel prices have recently increased. Petrol prices have increased by Rs4.80 per liter to Rs258.45, and high-speed diesel by Rs7.95 to Rs262.59.

Railway officials explained that high operational costs necessitate a fare revision to keep the services sustainable.

However, passengers and freight operators have expressed concerns. Passengers say rail is already their cheapest option, and traders warn that rising freight costs could push up the prices of transported goods.
