Islamabad: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has issued a notification to implement new gas prices from July 1, 2025. Although the increase in the basic tariff is not for domestic consumers, the monthly fixed charges have been significantly increased, which will affect millions of households.

According to an OGRA spokesperson, this increase in gas prices has been made mostly for the industrial and power generation sectors. Bread ovens, commercial CNG, and cement and fertilizer manufacturing industries have been exempted from this increase, meaning that gas prices for them will remain unchanged.

Which sectors will be affected?

This price hike is mainly for bulk consumers, the power sector, and industry.

The gas price for power plants has been increased by 16.66%, after which the new price has been fixed at Rs 1,225 per MMBTU, with an increase of Rs 175 per MMBTU.

The gas price for general industry has been increased by Rs 150 per MMBTU, and now it has reached Rs 2,300 per MMBTU.

The new gas price for captive power plants has been fixed at Rs 3,500 per MMBTU.

What changes for domestic consumers?

Although there has been no change in the basic gas prices for domestic consumers, their monthly fixed charges have been increased. Domestic consumers whose monthly gas consumption exceeds 15 cubic meters have had their fixed charges increased by Rs 1,000. After this increase, their fixed charges will be Rs 3,000.

This decision by OGRA may have an impact on various sectors of the economy, especially on the cost of electricity generation and the industrial sector.
