NEPRA to hear K-Electric’s plea for reduction in power tariff tomorrow

KARACHI: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has decided to hold a hearing tomorrow on the request of Karachi Electric (K-Electric) to reduce electricity prices for consumers. K-Electric has proposed a reduction in the price of electricity under the Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) for the month of February by Rs 6.62 paise per unit.

According to sources, if NEPRA approves this request of K-Electric, it will provide a total financial relief of Rs 6.66 billion to the city’s electricity consumers. The reduction will be applicable under the February FPA, which is expected to provide some relief to Karachi’s domestic and commercial consumers.

NEPRA officials said the agency would review the application and make a decision. If the proposal is approved, this reduction will be reflected in the next bills, which will significantly reduce the electricity costs of consumers.

This step has now been taken When there is a severe disappointment among the people due to the continuous increase in electricity tariffs across the country. Karachi’s consumers have also protested against inflation for the past several months, demanding the government to reduce electricity prices. Now it is to be seen how far NEPRA accepts this request of K-Electric and how long the people of Karachi get its benefit.
