Lahore: A high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has considered a comprehensive mechanism to regularize illegal housing societies established across the province. The meeting has decided to eliminate unnecessary NOC conditions to simplify the registration process of housing societies.
There are a total of 7,905 housing schemes in Punjab, out of which 2,687 are approved while 5,118 are illegal or pending. Out of 707 societies under the jurisdiction of the Lahore Development Authority, 427 are approved and 206 are illegal.
The meeting also announced the introduction of a modern housing society management system, under which society approval, management, transfer, and payment of NOC fees will be completely online.
Maryam Nawaz, taking a strong stand on illegal housing schemes, said that the hard-earned money of the people is being wasted in the name of housing schemes and government departments are responsible for their complicity in this. She questioned the concerned institutions as to why they remained silent when these illegal societies were being established.
The chief minister said that under the rules and regulations, an amnesty scheme will be considered once so that the loss of the people can be redressed by regularizing the illegal housing societies.
