Lahore: Preparations have begun to finalize important changes in the proposed law for local government elections in Punjab.
The meeting of the Punjab Assembly Standing Committee on Local Government considered several proposals, including the proposal to appoint a public representative instead of a deputy commissioner as the chairman of the district-level authority.
The meeting also proposed the direct election of women and minority representatives, which was approved by the majority.
The proposal for direct election of minority representatives was made by Member of the Provincial Assembly and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Minority Affairs, Philbos Christopher, with the aim of quickly resolving public issues and bringing to the fore real leadership.
According to sources, there is already a consensus in the Provincial Assembly in this regard, and the Standing Committee will present its final report in the next meeting.
