Lahore: According to a report by the international organisation IQAir, Lahore has once again been included in the list of the world’s worst polluted cities. Experts have termed it as ‘worrisome’ and said that if effective measures are not taken, the health of citizens may be at serious risk.
According to the data, Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached 154, which is considered “unhealthy” according to international standards. Experts say that breathing in this atmosphere has direct negative effects on the human body.
The report states that the amount of PM2.5 particles has been found to be about 11.9 times higher than the standard set by the World Health Organization. These are very fine particles that can enter the lungs and cause dangerous diseases such as respiratory tract, heart and lung cancer.
The Meteorological Department has warned that the weather will remain dry during the next 24 hours, due to which smog is expected to increase further.
Environmental experts have appealed to citizens, especially children and the elderly, to avoid unnecessary outings, spend minimal time in polluted air, wear masks and improve air circulation at home to reduce the effects of pollution.
