Lahore launches automatic electric tram service, new threshold in eco-friendly transport

Lahore: As a historic development, a pilot project of a modern electric tram system has been started in Lahore, which is based on automatic auto navigation and sensor-based guidance technology. In this pilot phase, the tram will be operated under the supervision of a driver, after which a fully automated system will be introduced in stages.

The good news for the public is that this service will be provided free of charge during the pilot project. The assembling of the tram is underway at the Ali Town depot, and this modern tram is capable of running without a rail track, which can cover a distance of 25 to 27 kilometers on a 10-minute charge.

The first route of the tram will be on Canal Road from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura, in which more than 250 passengers will be able to board each vehicle. It includes Wi-Fi, CCTV, air conditioning, and a smart charging system for the convenience of passengers.

Officials say that this modern tram project will change the transport landscape of Lahore and lead to a significant reduction in environmental pollution, and if successful, it will be expanded to other cities.
