. LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman on Sunday accused the PPP of “robbing” the Karachi local body elections and “imposing” the city’s mayor through rigging. Addressing a press conference in Lahore, he claimed that the current mayor of Karachi was snatched away from Jamaat-e-Islami and imposed.

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, while repeating the allegation of “robbing” the local bodies by the PPP, said that the seats won by his party were snatched away through rigging and the mayor was imposed in Karachi in a fake manner. He also spoke about the votes of 32 chairmen of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and said that they are now being told that these people like the PPP, although earlier it was believed that they did not vote under pressure. He stressed that the reserved seats were the right of the PTI, which they should have gotten.

The Jamaat-e-Islami ameer also mentioned his personal electoral experience, where he was declared successful on one seat but returned it because he himself lost by a few votes. He also accused Jamaat-e-Islami of not giving him the seats it won in the general elections. Criticizing politicians, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said, “When it comes to increasing their salaries, all parties become one.” At the end of the press conference, he commented on the global situation, saying, “What Israel does in Palestine, India does in Kashmir.” This stance of Jamaat-e-Islami is likely to further strain Karachi’s local politics.
