Karachi: Pakistan’s National Space and Aeronautical Research Organization (SUPARCO) has released its astronomical forecast for the moon of Jamadi-ul-Awwal 1447 AH. According to Suparco, the moon is likely to be sighted on the evening of October 23, 2025, after which the Islamic month may begin on October 24. Suparco also said that the moon of the new Islamic month has risen today (October 21) at 5:25 PM.
According to astronomical estimates, the age of the moon at sunset on October 23 will be approximately 48 hours and 54 minutes, which is a favorable age for moon sighting. Furthermore, the interval between sunset and moonset is expected to be up to 56 minutes in coastal areas. All these factors indicate that if the weather remains clear, the new moon can be easily seen on the evening of October 23, and there is a strong possibility that the first date of Jamadi-ul-Awwal in Pakistan will be October 24, 2025.
It is worth noting that the final and official announcement of the start of the Islamic month is not based on the predictions of Suparco. The country’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make an official announcement on the sighting or not of the moon after considering the basis of Shariah shahadahs (witnesses of moon sighting) received from across the country. The committee is expected to meet on the evening of October 23 for this purpose.
