Intensity of monsoon rains in Punjab, risk of urban flooding, PDMA alert

Lahore: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority Punjab (PDMA) has announced that there is a possibility of heavy rains in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Sialkot in the next 24 hours, which has increased the risk of urban flooding.  The PDMA has warned that the intensity of the rains may also lead to flood situations in Rawalpindi and Gujranwala.

According to the PDMA, there is a risk of flooding in the Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and their adjacent rivers. In addition, an increase in water flow has been predicted at Ganda Singh in the Sutlej River, which may further complicate the flood situation.

Low-level flooding has also been reported in the Narowal Nallah Bayan. The PDMA has advised the public to take precautionary measures to avoid heavy rains. The monsoon rains are likely to continue till July 31, which may further aggravate the flood situation in Punjab.
