Lahore: The continuous increase in prices of poultry products in the provincial capital has become a cause of concern for the public. The price of live chicken in the market is Rs 328 per kg, chicken meat Rs 475 per kg while eggs have reached Rs 315 per dozen.
Citizens say that the prices of chicken and eggs are increasing day by day, which is severely affecting the middle class. According to domestic consumers, inflation has directly affected their monthly income and basic food like meat has now become out of reach of the common citizen.
On the other hand, shopkeepers say that the cost of production has increased due to the increase in the prices of feed, electricity, and diesel, due to which an increase in the prices of poultry products is inevitable.
Analysts have warned that if the government does not take steps to reduce costs in the poultry sector, prices may increase further in the coming weeks, which is expected to further increase the inflation rate.
