Lahore: The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued instructions to the citizens living on the banks of the Ravi River to immediately move to safer places. DG PDMA Irfan Kathia has said that a high level of flood will pass from Shahdara tonight, which can prove to be a big challenge.

He said that it is hoped that the dams will remain safe, however, the water pressure is currently at a dangerous level and the cooperation of the public is very important to deal with any emergency situation.

Irfan Kathia said that this much water has been seen in the Chenab River after a decade and until this water passes through Rahim Yar Khan, the situation will remain a challenge for the administration. According to him, at least 128 places in the Chenab are currently under water.

According to water experts, the increase in water levels in the Ravi and Chenab rivers is not only a threat to the local population but can also damage agriculture, livestock and infrastructure.  Environmentalist Dr. Salman Ahmed says:

“This flood is not just a natural disaster but also a test of our disaster management system. If people do not evacuate to safe places in time, the risk of loss of life may increase.”
