Islamabad: While predicting Monsoon 2025, the Meteorological Department has sounded the alarm to the public and related institutions. DG Meteorological Department Mehr Sahibzad Khan has said that this year there will be more than usual rainfall in the central, southern and northeastern parts of the country, due to which the risks of floods and urban flooding have increased.
During the press conference, he said that the monsoon season will continue from June 15 to September 15, however, its start may be earlier and its end may be delayed. There is a risk of heavy rains and flooding in the upper areas during this season.
He said that this year, not only was the snowfall less, but the snow that fell melted prematurely, which has led to a significant increase in temperature and flood risks.
The possibility of urban flooding has become clear in Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar and Hyderabad. Although rainfall will be less in Gilgit-Baltistan and the northern areas, the process of snow melting may accelerate due to the increase in temperature.
The DG Meteorology has appealed to the citizens to be careful and follow the instructions issued by the government, while the institutions have been directed to keep advance preparations and relief plans active.
