Islamabad: In view of the artificial sugar crisis, the government has taken a major decision and taken control of all sugar stocks in the country. According to the Food Ministry, 1.9 million metric tons of sugar have now come under direct government supervision.
According to officials, the names of 18 sugar mill owners have been added to the Exit Control List (ECL) to eliminate the risk of artificial fluctuations in sugar prices and shortages, and further actions are underway.
The aim of this move is to ensure stability in sugar prices and transparent delivery in the country. FBR officers have been posted in all sugar mills who are monitoring the stock, while the track and trace system has also been activated so that immediate action can be taken against any illegal movement.
Officials say central digital monitoring has been launched to track the availability and prices of sugar. The move could be extended to other agricultural commodities in the future.
