Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has pointed out the governance crisis across the country and said that all four provinces are suffering from administrative problems, but Karachi in particular is being continuously ignored.

Speaking at the press conference, Hafiz Naeem said that Punjab’s performance should be compared in the context of the funds it receives, while comparing Karachi with Punjab is unfair. According to him, the measure of development should be determined in proportion to resources.

Expressing regret over the situation in Sindh, he said that his heart cries tears of blood after seeing the state of governance in the province. Hafiz Naeem claimed that the Sindh government has used up Rs 3,400 billion in Karachi’s resources, but the city is deprived of basic amenities.

Referring to the K-4 project, he said that work on this project started during the tenure of former Mayor Naimatullah Khan, but despite the passage of 21 years, it could not be completed, which is clear proof of the government’s incompetence.

Criticising political parties, Hafiz Naeem said that the MQM and the PPP start artificial confrontations in difficult times. He said that the PPP was imposed in Karachi through Form 47, and this party supports the government in constitutional amendments but avoids responsibility on public issues.

According to experts, the unfair distribution of urban resources and delays in development projects are further complicating the problems of a megacity like Karachi, the solution of which lies in transparent governance and empowerment of local governments.
