Lahore: With the arrival of Basant, the city of Lahore has become a place of celebration, while the Punjab government has officially announced a local holiday on February 6, providing convenience to the citizens.
According to official sources, various dates were considered at the district level, but finally February 6 was set as a holiday so that people could enjoy the festivities of the festival. This decision, combined with weekly holidays, has given citizens a complete long weekend.
The administration says that the city is expected to witness an increase in rush and activities during Basant, hence a comprehensive strategy has been prepared to maintain law and order. Police, rescue and district officials will be kept on high alert while additional personnel will be deployed at important places.
The Deputy Commissioner Lahore has directed parents not to send young children alone to events. Participation of youth below 18 years will be under the supervision of their families to avoid any untoward incident.
Citizens have welcomed the announcement of long holidays, saying that it will give families an opportunity to spend time together and enjoy traditional festival activities.
