Lahore: The Punjab School Education Department has taken a revolutionary step and announced a free e-bike scheme for women teachers, which aims to facilitate the teaching process, especially in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
A clear and transparent merit system has been created for the scheme, in which distance, family circumstances, educational qualifications, and driving skills will be calculated in the form of points. Two points per kilometer for the distance from school to home, 20 points for widowed or divorced women, 15 points for teachers with husbands living abroad, and 10 points for women with husbands working in other cities. The highest points have been kept for posting in difficult areas so that teachers serving in remote areas get more opportunities.
Additional points will also be given to teachers with educational qualifications, seniority, and a driver’s license. If the points of two candidates are equal, the older candidate will be preferred.
This initiative will not only provide a means of safe and fast travel for female teachers but will also help strengthen the education system in Pakistan, as the shortage of teachers in remote areas is a long-standing problem.
