Lahore: The recent floods have caused widespread destruction in various parts of Punjab. According to the Relief Commissioner Punjab, more than 4,700 villages have been submerged and thousands of settlements have been affected. This disaster has so far affected more than 4.5 million people, while 104 people have lost their lives in various accidents and rail accidents.

Relief officials say that after the water receded, relief operations have been intensified in the affected areas. The victims are being provided with tents, rations and medicines and medical teams are also active. However, due to the complete destruction of standing crops and houses, farmers and the rural population are facing severe financial problems.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has warned that the eleventh spell of monsoon will begin from Tuesday, during which rains are likely in the upper areas of Punjab. According to experts, this may lead to flooding in the rivers and canals again.

Authorities have directed the district administration to remain alert and residents of low-lying areas have been advised to be cautious. There is also a growing public demand for long-term and coordinated measures for the rehabilitation of the victims so that the losses from such disasters in the future are minimized.
