Lahore: The Punjab government has once again announced the launch of a province-wide vaccination campaign to protect children from a deadly disease like polio, in which extensive preparations have been completed to reach millions of families. Health officials say that this time the campaign has been made more effective and organized than before.
Adeel Tazar, head of the anti-polio program, said that the target has been set to vaccinate more than 17.8 million children in the province during this campaign. He said that teams will go door-to-door in both urban and rural areas to vaccinate children so that no child is left behind.
He explained that considering the population and geographical size of Lahore, the campaign has been kept for seven days, while in other districts this activity will continue for four days. According to officials, the purpose of the additional days is to ensure access to remote areas and backward settlements.
Adeel Tazar added that more than two lakh polio workers are participating in this national mission, who will administer the vaccines to children not only at homes but also at bus stands, markets and public places. Special supervisory staff has also been deployed to monitor these teams so that the campaign is transparent and effective.
Health experts say that the only effective way to prevent polio is vaccination, so parents should not listen to any rumors and cooperate fully with the teams.
Officials hope that this organized and extensive campaign will further limit the spread of the polio virus and help Pakistan achieve its goal of becoming a polio-free country soon.
