ISLAMABAD: The captive power levy imposed by the government has paved the way for a reduction in electricity rates, and according to sources, electricity consumers are likely to get financial relief soon.
Sources say that the government has prepared a plan to use the money collected from the captive power levy to reduce electricity tariffs. Under this plan, the benefit of the levy collected on a monthly basis is being considered to be transferred to consumers at intervals of two months.
According to sources, the federal cabinet has already approved that the resources obtained from the captive power levy should be used to provide relief to electricity consumers. Government circles say that if the levy is increased in stages, there may be scope for further reduction in electricity rates.
According to experts in the energy sector, this move will not only reduce the burden on consumers but also promote transparency in the electricity system.
