Lahore: In a major operation, the Anti-Corruption Establishment arrested Khushi Muhammad, the owner of an illegal housing society established on river land. This person was involved in illegal plotting and selling of about 12,000 kanals of land on the banks of the river.
According to the investigation, the accused started a housing scheme on river land and collected huge amounts of money by selling fake plots to citizens. According to initial evidence, the affected citizens were tricked into giving plots in installments, but there was no record regarding the ownership and legal status of the land.
Anti-corruption sources say that some officers of LDA and RODA have also come under suspicion in this case, who allegedly turned a blind eye. Action is also expected against these officers if the investigation progresses further.
Experts say that the establishment of housing schemes on river land is not only illegal but also causes environmental hazards and financial loss to citizens. Experts have demanded that the government take strict action against such schemes so that the public is not cheated in the future.
Anti-corruption authorities have announced that cases are being registered on the complaints of the affected citizens and legal proceedings have been initiated for recovery from the accused.
