Air quality in Lahore dangerously poor; schools to be closed

Lahore: Lahore citizens should also breathe carefully, because according to the Meteorological Department, the city’s Air Quality Index has reached 412. According to international standards, this level is considered very harmful to human health, which is why Lahore has once again topped the list of the most polluted cities in the world.

According to sources, the Punjab government has issued instructions to educational and environmental institutions that if pollution does not reduce in the coming days, a recommendation should be prepared for the immediate closure of primary schools. Officials say that industrial smoke and excessive use of traffic are the main reasons for the increase in smog.

The government has appealed to the public to wear masks while going out, avoid leaving home unnecessarily in the morning and evening hours, and immediately report environmentally harmful activities to the authorities. If the situation does not improve, a formal announcement regarding the closure of schools may be made early next week.
