Sheikupura: The 227th annual Urs celebrations of Sufi saint and great Punjabi poet Hazrat Pir Syed Waris Shah have begun in Sheikhupura. Secretary Auqaf Dr. Tahir Raza Bukhari inaugurated the Urs by performing the ritual of covering the shrine.
On this occasion, he said that Hazrat Waris Shah was a trustee of peace, love and tolerance, there is an urgent need to popularize the teachings of Sufis to eliminate extremism. He said that Waris Shah gave a new identity to literature by promoting the Punjabi language.
The district administration has formulated a special plan for security, cleanliness and traffic for the convenience of pilgrims. Deputy Commissioner Sheikhupura Shahid Imran Marth, while declaring a public holiday across the district on September 24, said that the Urs of Waris Shah is an important part of regional culture and spirituality.
During the three-day celebrations, pilgrims from all over the country are attending the shrine in large numbers, where langar and other arrangements have also been made.
