Summer vacations in schools in Punjab may begin soon.

LAHORE: On the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the Punjab government is considering early commencement of summer vacations in schools across the province. After the forecast of 4-7 degrees Celsius above normal temperature in central and southern Punjab, the PDMA has issued immediate instructions to the educational institutions. Schools have been instructed to change timings, suspend outdoor activities, and ensure a supply of clean water.

Many schools are already conducting classes in the morning hours (7 am to 11:30 am) to avoid the scorching heat. If the heat wave continues, the holidays may start before mid-May instead of June 1, as is usually the case. Schools have also been instructed to provide first aid facilities and make students wear light clothes.

A proposal has been sent to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to start the holidays from June 1; however, officials have indicated that if the heat increases, the holidays may start even earlier. Parents and students are eagerly waiting for the official announcement. Meteorologists are predicting that the heat wave will continue in April and May.
